Data Security on Android

The Geocortex Mobile App Framework does not encrypt user data on the device. Other apps with permission to access data on the device could potentially read the Geocortex Mobile App Framework for Android data. We recommend that users only install apps from trusted software vendors.

We strongly recommend users use a PIN to secure the device, so that when it is connected to a computer, the device must be unlocked before files can be accessed. However, if the device has an external card that is used as portable storage, such as a microSD card, this will not prevent someone from removing the card and reading its contents with another device.

In Android 6.0 "Marshmallow", it is possible to format a card to use as internal storage, which will encrypt its contents. However, a malicious app with sufficient permission could still potentially read the user data.

The Geocortex Mobile App Framework for Android stores data within the Android\data\Geocortex.App folder. This path is located within the root of the external card if the device has one, or within the root of the internal device storage. For more information about where the Geocortex Mobile App Framework for Android stores user data, see the Android Developers website.

If an Android device is lost or stolen, the user may be able to use the Android Device Manager website to locate or erase it.
