VertiGIS Studio Printing is designed to run in the cloud or on premises:
▪In the Cloud: In the cloud version of VertiGIS Studio Printing, print layouts are created, saved, and generated in the cloud. The ArcGIS items associated with print templates are in ArcGIS Online.
▪On Premises: In the on-premises version of VertiGIS Studio Printing, you use your on-premises deployment of Print Designer to design print layouts. Print layouts are saved to your ArcGIS account (Portal for ArcGIS or ArcGIS Online, depending on how you configure your deployment).
On-premises Printing offers additional capabilities that are not available in cloud Printing. To choose between cloud Printing and on-premises Printing, consider the whether you need any of the following capabilities:
▪Local Resources: On-premises Printing can access resources that are only accessible from your organization's intranet. The VertiGIS Studio Printing cloud servers cannot access your local resources—they cannot resolve your server's host name to connect to the server.
On-premises Printing is required to do any of the following:
•Print a map service or feature service that is only accessible from your intranet
•Print a Windows Integrated-secured map service or feature service
•Use images that are only accessible from your intranet
▪Portal for ArcGIS: On-premises Printing works with Portal for ArcGIS or ArcGIS Online, whereas cloud Printing works with ArcGIS Online only.
In on-premises Printing, prints are created, saved, and generated on premises. The items associated with print templates can either be in Portal for ArcGIS or in ArcGIS Online.

* If you want to use VertiGIS Studio Printing in an environment with no Internet access, follow the instructions in Use VertiGIS Studio Printing Without Internet Access.
▪Unlimited Printing : On-premises Printing allows unlimited printing. Cloud Printing places a limit of 1 GB per month on the volume of print-generation requests, as described in the Master License Agreement.
Currently, ArcGIS Pro layouts are not supported for cloud printing. However, if you have an on-premises installation of the printing engine, you can use ArcGIS Pro layouts shared via VGS Print Designer or VGS Desktop on ArcGIS Online for printing.
