VertiGIS Studio Desktop provides tools for creating, displaying, and editing measurements in ArcGIS Pro. You can use Dimensioning to add measurement information to a map while controlling how dimensions are positioned and displayed.
Dimensioning uses Esri dimension feature classes to store measurements and dimension styles to control their appearance. VertiGIS Studio Desktop extends this functionality with tools for configuring dimension data, creating dimensions, placing construction points, and editing existing dimensions.
Dimensioning consists of two primary components:
•Dimensioning Admin: Use Dimensioning Admin to prepare the data structures and styles required for dimensioning. You can create dimension and construction feature classes and create or modify the style families used to display dimensions.
•Dimensioning Editor: Use Dimensioning Editor to create and edit measurements. The editor uses the dimension feature classes, construction point layers, and style families configured for the project.
A typical workflow is to configure the required feature classes and styles with Dimensioning Admin and then use Dimensioning Editor to create dimensions.
A dimension feature class stores the geometry and measurement information for dimensions. It uses the Esri Dimension feature type and can contain dimensions that use different display styles.
Dimension feature classes must be stored in a feature dataset within a file geodatabase.
For example:
Engineering.gdb
→ Survey
→ Dimensions
Dimensioning Editor recognizes Dimension-type layers in the map and makes them available for creating dimensions.
Dimension feature classes cannot be created directly in the root of a geodatabase. They must be created within a feature dataset.
A construction point layer stores points associated with dimension measurements.
For example, when construction points are enabled for an orthogonal dimension, a point can be created at the start and end of each measured line. These points can then be used as precise snapping locations for subsequent editing or measurement operations.
Construction point layers are standard point feature classes that contain additional VertiGIS fields used by Studio Desktop to identify and manage construction points.
When creating an orthogonal dimension, you can independently choose whether to create:
•Dimensions
•Construction points
•Both dimensions and construction points
