Convert Legacy Print Templates

When you convert legacy templates to the ArcGIS Pro layout format, a new .pagx file is shared as a portal item. You can delete the legacy template portal items after conversion.

To convert print templates, you must have VertiGIS Studio Printing version 5.23 or later and have the VertiGIS Studio Print Engine installed (see Install VertiGIS Studio Printing Engine).

After you install the VertiGIS Studio Print Engine, you can convert your existing templates into new ArcGIS Pro layouts within VertiGIS Studio Print Designer.

You can convert a single template to a layout or convert a batch.

To convert a template to a layout:

  1. Open VertiGIS Studio Print Designer.

  2. Go to Switch Designer and switch to the Designer for Legacy Templates.

Your existing Legacy print templates become visible.

  3. Open an existing template.

  4. Select File > Convert.

  5. Click OK to convert.

This conversion process is non-destructive. It creates a new layout item and the existing layout remains available for apps that may currently be using it.

  6. Repeat the above steps for any additional layouts you want to convert to layouts.

  7. Enable the ArcGIS Pro Layout Mode setting to see your new print layouts.

Batch Convert Legacy Print Templates

To convert multiple print templates to a layout:

  1. Open the Designer for Legacy Templates.

  2. Go to File > Batch Convert.

The Convert Legacy Templates to Pro Layouts window opens.

  3. Select the legacy templates you want to convert.

  4. Click Next.

  5. Click Convert All.

Once the conversion finishes and green checkmarks confirm that it was successful, the layout is available as a portal item.
