Through the Portal service, you can restrict which Portal items are available to users when they add a layer. This gives you greater control over the data used in the application and helps prevent users from adding irrelevant or unsupported content.
In addition to restricting items by tag, you can configure the initial data source and control how filtering options are presented in the Add Layer interface, including filter panels, chips, and menus.
In the following example, a set of organization-specific tags (VertiGIS_Hydrants, VertiGIS_Water, VertiGIS_Hydro) is created and assigned to Portal items. These tags are then configured in the Portal service so that only items matching the specified tags are displayed when a user adds layer data.

Description |
|---|---|
Restrict "Add Layer" to these tags |
Only display portal items with these specified Esri tags to the end user. This setting controls which layers are offered to the end user in the Add Layer tool, which can be found at the bottom of the Layers tab in the Web GIS - Default template. To display all portal items, remove all tags. To remove a tag, click the X beside the tag. You can specify multiple tags by separating them with a comma or simply add them one at a time. |
