Configure Background Location Updates
You can configure the Studio Go application to receive background location updates. This enables the application to continue performing tasks when it is in the background of a user's device or when the device is asleep.
To configure background location updates, you must invoke the following commands via a Run Command activity in VertiGIS Studio Workflow:
-
system.enable-background-location-updates
-
system.disable-background-location-updates
Running background apps can impact the battery life of the user's device. We recommend you disable background location updates when they are not necessary.
The functions that use background location updates by default are as follows:
-
Using the Start Recording button when the user adds or edits a feature.
System Notifications
Users receive system notifications on their device regardless of whether they are actively using their Studio Mobile application.
There is no configuration for system notifications. If you enable the background location updates for the application and the user allows notifications on their device, the user receives updates and information.
For example, you are in the field to locate a hydro pole. You launch Studio Go, which runs a workflow to monitor your location, and then you put your mobile device away in your pocket. (The workflow continues to run in the background). When you get within 50 meters of the hydro pole, the workflow triggers a notification to your device to alert you that you are close to your destination. You can see this notification in your device notifications (that is, you do not have to be in Studio Go to see it).
